Neptune's Daughter: Baby It's Cold Outside?

Should we stop listening to these Christmas songs?
"Baby, It's Cold Outside is one of those Christmas songs that's about as traditional as mince pies.
But an American radio station's decision to pull it from playlists because it's seen as unsuitable in the #MeToo era has reignited a debate about the song, and raised questions about other potentially questionable Christmas classics.
Baby, It's Cold Outside found a wide audience as a duet between Ricardo Montalban and Esther Williams in the 1949 film
Neptune's Daughter, and in recent years has been covered by the likes of Lady Gaga and Michael BublΓ©.
Critics of the song see it as the story of a man pressuring a woman into spending the night when she doesn't want to.

[and if you watch the rest of the movie clip you will see that a woman is pressuring a man into spending the night when he doesn't want to]
In particular, the line "Say what's in this drink?/No cabs to be had out there" has led people to make a link with date rape.

Glenn Anderson, a DJ on Star 102, said the lyrics now felt "manipulative and wrong", and that it has no place in a world where people are "extra sensitive"."

Personally, I don't think we should ban any Christmas songs, as much as most of them give me the s#its.
But here is something to fantasize about to all you people who think Baby, It's Cold Outside is a rape-y song.
Mermaids/Sirens were supposed to lure men to their watery graves with the promise of hanky-panky -
Coffee and the Siren's Song
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays ... or whatever.
A Star is Born as Two Stars Die?
And get a life and stop going overboard;-)
Lest we forget here in Australia, on November 11th, 2016John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John released a Christmas album with Baby, It's Cold Outside on it.
And on Sunday night I saw John Farnham sing live for the first time in my life at a local winery.
I thought he was pretty good, so God knows what was in my drink that day;-)
Nothing "rape-y" by the looks:-)

Anyone who thinks Baby, It's Cold Outside is too "rape-y" might want to take a needle out and scratch that one off the record if you bought it.
And I might just buy the album now and play it on repeat come Christmas Day to protest the banning of the song on some backward thinking radio station in "the land of the free".
Cheers ... and keep an eye on your drinks over Christmas and New Years, because it is bound to be hot outside and in, here in Australia;-)
