Cloud Appreciation

I joined The Cloud Appreciation Society on the 24th of June this year after reading Gavin Pretor Pinney's wonderful book about watching waves.

Not in Kansas

 Anymore?

My government's man-made
efforts
this week over Brisbane
All I could get cloud-wise the other day were these shots of the Government's man-made clouds being sprayed all over the sky.
Julian Lennon's cloud photo

I had no idea Julian Lennon was into clouds either, until I saw him in a story talking about his passion of snapping clouds with his
(much better than mine) camera.
Now I just have to get Gavin's other book.

  1. Joining anything on the 24th of june is synchronicitously compelling, of course.

  4. That Wavewatcher's Companion art... looks like a foamy phallus. Yea, I know, we always see what we want to in the clouds and the waves. In my defense, I've been syncing on the myth of the birth of Venus/Aphrodite, who was born from the pink foam of Uranus' castration.

  5. @Michael
I actually noticed that myself when I first saw the book, but I somehow think it was deliberately meant to be like that considering the erect lighthouse in the background.
I'm a big fan of Wilson Bryan Key and have read most of his books,so I know the little tricks pulishers play in artwork to sell books.
Just check this You Tube out about lighthouse symbolism if you don't believe me -

You may never think of High Noon the same way again.-)

  6. I don't think I've ever had contact with a member of "The Cloud Appreciation Society" previously! But, what's not to like about clouds. When we were flying out to Mallorca there were some incredible cloud formations from the plane - but I only took one photo, wish I'd taken more now.

Oh, and thanks for the link.
