Pride and Prejudice and Halloween?🎥📖🧟

I never knew Jane Austen could write like Stephen King:-)
I couldn't be bothered reading Jane Austen's book 'Pride and Prejudice', so I watched the 2005 movie version of the book on Netflix this afternoon and then saw there was also a movie on Netflix called 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies', so I watched that tonight for a Halloween movie.
And on the subject of
Halloween I thought it was amusing that Jena Malone from 'Donnie Darko' plays Lydia Bennent in the 2005 straight lace P&P movie:-)
I wonder if 'Tropic of Cancer and Zombies' could work ... or maybe 'Fear of Flying and Zombies'?-)
How about 'The Tao of Craft and Zombies'?

The $430 Million Dollar Question?💰🤑

"
Five million Australians are expected to get spooky for Halloween this week, according to research by the Australian Retailers Association (ARA).
In its first survey of Halloween intentions, the ARA found that the average amount spent on Halloween is $86 per person, equating to a $430 million boost for retailers.
Those in the 35- to 49-year-old age group are the most likely to celebrate Halloween, with one in five to hold or attend a party without children.
"Halloween has been growing in status as an Australian tradition and has become a highly anticipated seasonal event for many retailers," ARA CEO Paul Zahra said.
"Businesses are coming to the party with themed windows and store displays as part of big promotional push in the lead up to October 31.""
It doesn't make a lot of $ense to "celebrate" Halloween on October 31$t over here unless you can ca$h in on it that is:-)
We $hould be doing this kind of $tuff around Ea$ter over here.

Halloween and Squid Game?🦑

I woke up this morning to see
the tragic news from South Korea about the
Halloween crowd surge in Seoul leaving more than 140 dead and dozens injured and couldn't help thinking how 'Squid Game' costumes and masks seem to be a big seller in the junk mail flyers over here in Australia at least.
Halloween isn't even officially recognized over here, not that you would know it.
I'm not against having some fun at this time of year, but in the southern hemisphere we are heading into summer, not winter like the northern hemisphere is, so it doesn't really make sense to celebrate harvest themes in the Aussie springtime.
And I like the Netflix series 'Squid Game' as much as any horror movie/show goes, it's just a tragic coincidental shame that South Korea is where this real-life Halloween catastrophe has occurred.
I featured this page below of the 'Cheap as Chips' flyer (which has a lot of 'Squid Game' stuff) in my recent post about the latest ... and hopefully last 'Halloween' movie to hit our movie screens -

Falling Down ... and Apart ... as We Head For 2023?🍂

I see that the movie 'Falling Down' turns 30 years old in 2023, which is synchromystically interesting considering "London Bridge" fell down this year in 2022 -

In the song "I'm in It", Kanye West references the film 'Falling Down' when he raps "Time to take it too far now/Michael Douglas out the car now".
Ye sounds like Henry Miller to my "half Jewish" ears:-)

A Very Crabby Christmas (Island) and a New Scrooge for 2022?🦀🎄

When I saw this news story above, I thought how cool it would be if you could buy Christmas Island red crab lights to hang on the wall for the Halloween to Christmas time period of the year to coincide with the migration of the Christmas Island red crabs:-)

RIP Jerry Lee Lewis?🐯

I just saw in the national news this morning that the rumours of Jerry Lee Lewis's death were not very much exaggerated after all.
"American rock pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis, who was torn between his Bible-thumping upbringing and his desire to make hell-raising rock 'n' roll with hits such as Great Balls of Fire and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, has died at the age of 87."
He was one of the first performers inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, which was the Year of the Tiger, as is 2022, the year of his passing.
The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame turns 40 in 2023, the Year of the Rabbit, and on the anniversary of Bram Stoker's passing (April 20th) and Hitler's birthday coincidentally:-)

V is for the Visitors?👽🛸

In the last few weeks a few coincidences led me to watch the 2009-11 V TV re-boot of the original 1983 TV show.
When I was researching my post about the 1982 movie 'Poltergeist' and the supposed curse surrounding the movie, I found out that the last acting credit for the late Dominique Dunne was the role of Robin Maxwell in the 1983 V TV series, but her role was re-cast after she was murdered in real life -
I thought I had the DVD of the first V series in my DVD collection, and which I had never watched and had bought from a bargain bin years ago, but it was the 2009 V series I had bought, not the original.
My DVD
The loVechild of MJ Fox and Tom Cruise?-)
It was certainly interesting watching my DVD in 2022 and realizing that the term "the Visitors" was used in the V series long before Whitley Strieber started using the term, and that the TV show came out years before 'Communion' was released on the world and before people like David Icke started talking about eVil reptilians trying to rule the world.
David Icke played for Coventry City FC?
I guess the elephant in the room here is whether Strieber and Icke both watched V before coming up with what maybe just pop culture fantasies instead of any real encounters?
I mean as much as I like Whitley as a person, if you take a read of his Wikipedia page you would have to admit that he is either an unreliable witness or a fibber.
And Icke may believe what he says about a reptilian race, but who's to say he just didn't have a breakdown in the 90s and confused memories of the lizards in V with his own "reality"?
