High Rolling Around Vegas? 🎰🎲🎡

I didn't gamble when I was in Las Vegas, but I did spend money on the wheel.
The High Roller Ferris wheel that is, which officially turned 11 years old today.
"It opened to the public on March 31, 2014 as the world's tallest Ferris wheel. It is 9 ft (2.7 m) taller than the 541-foot (165 m) Singapore Flyer, which had held the record since 2008.
Since October
2021 it is the world's second tallest Ferris wheel after Ain Dubai."
I'd bought a "ride anytime" pass for me and my son for Friday the 28th of February before I left Australia, as that was going to be our first day in Las Vegas and we wanted a bird's eye view of the city, not that I knew I was going to see live flamingos and hummingbirds for the first time in my life  just before riding the wheel -
The Flamingo is The Phoenix?🔥🦩
Originally, I also had bought tickets to see
Postcard from Earth in 'The Sphere' but they informed me before I had left Australia that they had cancelled that Friday night session and refunded my money because they had replaced the movie with another event.
The Sphere mocking me as
I ride the
High Roller Ferris wheel
So, I bought tickets to see the Blue Man Group play at The Luxor, the hotel we were staying in -
We tried booking tickets for 'The Sphere' for Sunday morning, as we were catching a plane to Denver Sunday afternoon, but the session was sold out, so we never got to see 'The Sphere' from the inside while we were in Vegas.
And if you think airport security is tough to get through, try getting on this wheel at security.
It looked good from the outside though and from the wheel.
It even did an impersonation of the planet Jupiter for us as we rode the wheel higher.
We picked the right time to get on the wheel as the sun set as we went round, turning the scenery from day to night before we got off.
I read on the wheel's Wikipedia page that "After preliminary testing, High Roller's lighting system was illuminated at sunset on February 28, 2014."
Which was exactly 11 years to the day that we rode the wheel:-)
What are the odds?-)
March 31st is also
Eiffel Tower Day -
Today is Eiffel Tower Day?🗼
I had the chance to go up the replica Eiffel Tower when I was in Las Vegas but never got around to it.
You can't win 'em all, as they say in Vegas:-)

Today is Eiffel Tower Day?🗼

I had the chance to go up the replica Eiffel Tower when I was in Las Vegas but never got around to it.
The Eiffel Tower Paris Las Vegas
We had already been on the
High Roller Ferris Wheel on the first day we got into Vegas, so the appeal to pay to go up to a similar height to see a similar view of the city had worn off by the time we had the chance to go to the top of the tower.
Maybe next time we visit Vegas I'll do the tower and give the wheel a miss?
Ironically, while the
Eiffel Tower was completed on March 31st, 1889, the High Roller Ferris Wheel opened on March 31st, 2014, and turns 11 today:-)

A Visit to the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay on Match Day?🏉🦈

On the day of
The Sharks vs The Panthers game in Vegas I thought it would be amusing to visit
the Shark Reef Aquarium at the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the morning of the match.
It certainly didn't turn out to be
a lucky omen for my team, but it was certainly worth the visit I thought.
I even got to see a live
Komodo Dragon, which was something I didn't get to see at Australia Zoo the last time I was there, even though they were meant to be there somewhere -
They even had live piranhas in Vegas probably as an incentive to square up your gambling debts?-)
Of course, sharks can be just as motivating when it comes to paying up:-)
Come to think about it, whatever happened to our old Sharkie mascot MC Hammerhead?-)
This part of the hotel was a bit of a wreck I thought:-)
I blame those sharks with the saws.
I find watching sharks swim kind of relaxing, as long as there is a pane of glass between us that is.
They even let you pat
stingrays at the aquarium if you trusted your travel insurance to get you medical attention when you needed it over here ... which I didn't, but my son did.
They certainly had some trippy fish floating around the hotel.
They even had some Lionfish floating around, which being a Brisbane Lions AFL member I liked.
At least at the end of the day I had some happy shark memories from my Vegas trip ... barring the scoreline:-(
