I rewatched the TV series 'Apples Never Fall' and started reading the book that the TV series was adapted from and have to say that there are quite a few differences between the two.
Joy is the person who goes missing:-)
For starters, the apples mentioned in the book are green apples but in the TV show are red apples.
Green apples in Australia usually mean Granny Smith apples, and because in the book Joy desperately wishes to be a grandmother, that might explain the green apples?
The book is set in Sydney, Australia, while the TV series is filmed in Australia, the story takes place in The United States.
UPDATE: October 12th, 2026
The main reason I watched the TV show again was I got the BINGE streaming service back on with a $5 for the first month deal so I could watch the Heath Ledger 'Ned Kelly' movie and saw that this was the streaming service that I had watched 'Apples Never Fall' on when it first came out, but I still hadn't finished reading the book that I had sitting on my bedside table for over a year now.
So, I re-watched the TV show and then picked up the book and started reading it from the beginning to see what the differences were.
I'm only about halfway through the book as I write this post up, but I'm finding the book better at explaining the motivations of all the characters involved way better than the TV series did.
