Christine Anu as Kali in Matrix Reloaded |
(Sanskrit: काळी, IPA: [kɑːliː]),
also known as Kālikā
(Sanskrit: काळिका),
is the Hindu goddess associated with empowerment, shakti.
The name Kali comes from kāla, which means black, time, death, lord of death, Shiva.
Since Shiva is called Kāla—the eternal time—Kālī, his consort, also means "Time" or "Death" (as in time has come).
Hence, Kāli is the Goddess of Time and Change.
Although sometimes presented as dark and violent, her earliest incarnation as a figure of annihilator of evil forces still has some influence.
Various Shakta Hindu cosmologies, as well as Shākta Tantric beliefs, worship her as the ultimate reality or Brahman.
She is also revered as Bhavatārini
(literally "redeemer of the universe").
Comparatively recent devotional movements largely conceive Kāli as a benevolent mother goddess"

"For Whom the Bell Tolls"?
When I started looking through the cast of Enter the Matrix I saw
Chistine Anu had voiced the character Kali in this game/movie as well as playing the part in the movie Matrix Reloaded.
Chistine Anu started her career as a chart topping singer in Australia.
Her first song was a revamped Paul Kelly song called Last Train
which came out in 1993, the same year as
Soul Asylum released their song Runaway Train.

Her follow-up, Monkey and the Turtle, was based on a traditional story.
You might want to take a look at the beginning of the
Monkey and the Turtle clip where the camera starts off on the
Virgin of Guadalupe and pans straight to Christine as in maybe a
suggestion of her being one and the same as the Virgin?
My Island Home released in 1995 was probably the song Christine is best known for.
