I'm only writing this post because I finished reading a book about lightning before visiting 'Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary', only to find out after I come out into the carpark that the zoo is named after this "lone pine" above that was planted in 1867 and hit by lightning in 1975:-)
You can still catch a boat from the city today, although my youngest son drove me there, so we could meet my oldest son and his partner and my granddaughter, so I could give him his birthday present from the week before.
He suggested we meet at 'Lone Pine' because my granddaughter loves this place, plus they don't live that far away from it, unlike me and his brother do.
And I found out that an adult ticket to get into 'Lone Pine' was going to set me back another $63 on top of the $200 I forked out for his birthday present, so I bought an annual pass for $101 in the gamble that if my granddaughter loved it that much maybe I'll be back here a few more times within the year?
Oddly enough, I don't think that I have ever seen a live platypus in my lifetime and I have lived in Australia for the large majority of my life, barring a few weeks of holidays overseas of late.

You weren't allowed flash photography in the platypus aquarium [?], and my phone let me down on this visit, so I'm determined to get better shots next time ... if there is a next time?
The last zoo I visited was the Singapore Zoo, which hopefully I'll be able to visit with my granddaughter and my son before my time is up.
