Friday at the First Boomerang Festival Ever

Opening of the Boomerang Festival on Friday night
I had a great day at the first ever Boomerang Festival to be held at the same site that Bluesfest is held at each year.
It only seems about a tenth of the area that Bluesfest covers, but I'm sure that will expand over time.
I even caught a rainbow in my lens while trying to photograph the Rainbow Serpent.
I love the art on offer, too bad I can't afford to buy much at the moment:-(
Now this painting at $150 I would loved to have bought, but my wife would kill me (faster;-) if I brought this home with me with the price tag showing.
That painting whilst being a sugar glider and not a possum still reminded me of this incident from a short while ago.

Opportunity?

I don't think these would fly,
even if I could launch one into the air
Now that's a sun lamp;-)
I did pick up two rocks from the Jambama art gallery though, and even those I can't really afford, but I felt I had to get these.
They were like magnets to my soul for some reason and I couldn't walk away without forking out a reasonable $10 each for them.
It just meant I would have to eat a meal when I got home instead of buying more than a $5 slice of pizza and a $6 beer.
Whoever made this must have a small hand;-)

The Red-Eyed Green Tree Frog

Symbolism

I had no idea that there were green frogs with red eyes in indigenous art.
They go well next to my Instant Karma boomerang on my bookcase;-)
I picked up these great little postcards as well.
Plus, there was this great little pamphlet about the history of the area with the mention of Julian Rocks.
I told the lady running this tent about my idea of offering
Julian Lennon the spot of a special guest for next year's festival with maybe getting press photos near his name's sake Julian Rocks named by Captain Cook as the white-man's name for Nguthungulli.
Wouldn't that be a story of reconciliation with Julian bringing attention to the Aboriginal name for the Rocks that share his name?
Julian after all was presented with a white feather by an Aboriginal tribe because they recognized him as a messenger to bridge the two cultures of white and black.

"Dad once said to me, that should he pass away, if there was some way of letting me know he was going to be ok - that we were all going to be ok - the message would come to me in the form of a White Feather.
Then something happened to me, whilst on tour with the last album, Photograph Smile, in Australia.
I was presented with a White Feather by an Aboriginal tribal elder, from The Mirning people, which definitely took my breath away.
The White Feather Foundation was created for the purpose of giving a voice and support to those who cannot be heard.
The tribal elders asked for my help, as I could bring awareness to their plight and to others who were suffering the same.
Having had the White Feather bestowed upon me, I knew this endeavour was to be part of my destiny.
One thing for sure is that the White Feather has always represented peace to me, as well as communication..."
Julian also produced this film Whaledreamers in 2006 and apparently he is a mad keen whale-watcher and October is just at the end of the whale-watching season, so he may get a chance to spot the white whale that swims in these waters every year?
Unlike Bluesfest though, if it rains
(like it does sometimes at Bluesfest)
the audience will get soaked.
Unless you are watching one of the acts in this small tent pictured below.
And guess what?
I caught a replica of the orb I caught in Byron Bay a few years ago at the BBWF.
Even though I had the same spiritual type feeling when I took these pictures, I tend to think it is just a lens flair coincidence more than some type of actual orb presence, because I didn't physically see them and seemed to get quite a lot yesterday, which is very unusual for this camera, but it seems to be the lens doing it to me.
I was also part of the world largest Corroboree (not so) flash mob.
It was filmed, so here is the You Tube that may have captured my bad dance moves,
but I couldn't find myself in that film if you offered me $1,000,000.
Then Archie Roach was pulling heartstrings with his heartbreaking ballads on stage after the opening festivities were over.
I couldn't afford to be there today, plus it's a bloody long drive there and back to Brisbane, but I will be there for the closing tomorrow (Sunday).
Hopefully I will have a lot of great pictures to post of that day as well.

I went back to the same tent to buy some playing cards I had my eye on Friday (which I did) and I noticed there were no stones left. When I asked where the stones went I was told they were all sold out on Friday,so lucky I bought those two stones when I did.

  6. Interesting post Gordon.
You know McCartney wrote Hey Jude for and about Julian (as well as about heroin too,I suspect)don't you.
I read somewhere the other day Julian felt snubbed by not being invited to Paul's last wedding.
Plus the Jim Morrison thing is synchy because me and the sync-heads where talking about the movie "Room 237" and Morrison's mug shot number when he got arrested was 23750 and Jack Nicholson's bithday is 4/22/37 and Chalie Manson's mug shot was taken on the 22nd April...Jack's birthday.
