How to Celebrate A’Phabet Day or No “L”[s] Day?πŸ“΅πŸŒžπŸš«

Every December 25th
Christopher Knowles Noels?-)
"A’Phabet Day, also known as No LDay, is a playful holiday celebrated on December 25th
The name is a pun on the word “Noel,” which is associated with Christmas and sounds like “No L.”
On this day, people challenge themselves to avoid using the letter L in speech and writing, turning everyday communication into a fun linguistic game.
The origins of this quirky tradition are unclear, but it has gained popularity among word enthusiasts and those looking to add a bit of humor to the holiday season.
While the exact beginnings of A’Phabet Day remain a mystery, its charm lies in its simplicity and the joy it brings to those who participate.
When omitting a single letter, individuals find creative ways to express themselves, often resulting in amusing conversations and inventive writing.
This lighthearted observance offers a unique twist to traditional holiday festivities, encouraging people to engage with language in a novel and entertaining manner."
KNOWLES' LAWS
When I saw that today was NoLDay I couldn't help but think of my old X-mate Christopher Knowles over at 'The Secret Sun' blog and how he likes to play around with words to make up all sorts of fantastic stories, much like they tell on days like this:-)
And while
Knowles can be an amusing read at times, he has become a bit of a "synchromystic" LOSER lately IMHO;-)

Reasons for Celebrating Christmas Book Flood ... or Not? πŸ“•πŸ“–πŸ”–πŸ₯🏊

I hadn't heard of 'Christmas Book Flood' until now.
Jolabokaflod
The Christmas Book Flood, or “JΓ³labΓ³kaflΓ³Γ°,” has roots in Iceland that go back to the mid-20th century. It began during World War II, a time when many items were scarce due to rationing.
Although many goods were restricted, paper was still available in Iceland. This made books an accessible and meaningful gift option. To make the most of this, Icelandic publishers started releasing most of their new books in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The tradition really took off in 1944, the same year Iceland gained independence from Denmark. That year, the first “BΓ³katΓΓ°indi,” a catalog of newly published books, was sent to every home in Iceland. This catalog allowed people to browse and choose which books to give as gifts.
The Christmas Book Flood became a way for Icelanders to celebrate their cultural heritage and love of literature. Today, it remains a central part of the holiday season in Iceland, with people eagerly awaiting the arrival of the annual book catalog and the chance to discover new stories.
DAY 7 — The Joy of Re-reading
I notice that the blog site that the 'Days of the Year' site links you to seems to have petered out Advent calendar wise, as of Christmas eve 2025 it seems to finish at Day 7:-(
POST [WASSTILL IN PROGRESS, AS I'm OFF TO BED BEFORE SANTA GETS HERE AND SEES THAT I'm STILL AWAKE
Well, I'm awake now on Christmas Day and, what ... NO PRESENTS under my tree?!
I'm beginning to think that Santa is nothing but a myth after all;-)
Residents in Australia’s southernmost state
have awoken to a white Christmas
And it is snowing in Australia this year, but not where I am.
And don't forget it's summer down here at Christmas, not winter.
POST [WAS] STILL IN PROGRES, BECAUSE I've GOT A FAMILY PISS UP LUNCH TO GO TO.
CHEERS:-)
Best stout I have ever tasted so far
I discovered Southwark Stout this year, and while it is the best stout I have ever tasted, I like to drink Coopers Stout at Christmastime, as it's the only Australian owned major brewery left.
Coopers Stout isn't that far behind Southwark Stout in the best stout category, I think.
Burial Rites (2013)
I bought Hannah Kent's first book about Iceland years ago and still haven't finished reading it.
I've also picked up a few of her other books from street libraries and am yet to read.
I like the idea of 'Christmas Book Floodbut some books people give you for Christmas are books you just wouldn't read probably ever.
As a personal example, a guy I work with gave me two books about corrupt American politics and the Epstein Files, which I couldn't give a hoot about, so I donated them to a street library before seeing the movie 'Avatar: Fire and Ash', which is why we ate at the fish shop before the movie, because that street library is only a street away from there.
Maybe I'll gift Icelandic themed books to people close to me for next time the 'Christmas Book Floodcomes around, with the proviso that if they really don't want to read the books to donate them to a street library in exchange for something that they do want to read, so the 'book angel' can gift the books to someone who really wants to read them.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all.

Ballad of a Small Player ... in Macau? πŸƒπŸŽ²πŸ’°πŸ’ΈπŸ€‘

I watched the Netflix movie 'Ballad of a Small Player' on December 20th, 2025, which was the 26th anniversary of the Handover of Macau, and then a day or two later Netflix send me one of those annoying 'Did you like this?' emails (which I never reply to) and I thought, that's a good question, because I still don't know.
Every December 20th
I only watched it because I was surprised how much Macau looks like Las Vegas at first glance, with its fake Eifel Tower like Vegas has and the fountain light shows.
I think I might have to read the book to find out what really happened ... or didn't?
And check out Macau for myself ... not for the gambling though;-)

How to Celebrate National Christmas Movie Marathon Day?πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸ“ΊπŸƒ

I would rather watch a Christmas movie a day (even that is overkill to me) than to watch an all-day Christmas movie marathon to be honest.
And what really passes for a Christmas movie?
The New Beverly Cinema
I notice that QT has nearly a month worth of
Christmas themed movies this December at his New Beverly cinema in LA.
And if I was living in LA I would be seeing a fair few movies at his cinema this December.
Kind of prophetic that he had on the program at the beginning of the month a 'When Harry Met Sally' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' double feature, considering the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife this month.
