I was watching a soccer match tonight (I wrote this post before my internet was disconnected for nearly a week while I moved house and could post this post, but my provider cut my internet connection off on Friday when it was meant to be disconnected on Monday) between Australia (my home country) and Japan, and it was a vital match for both countries as to who would qualify for the world cup in Russia.

My home country lost the game 2-0, which puts a serious dent in our hope to qualify for the world cup in Russia, but there was a semi-subconscious part of me that was really happy for Japan to make it through to Russia, even at the expense of the country I've always called home in this lifetime.

I mean I love this country (Australia) so much that I even have a tattoo of the national flag tattooed on my left shoulder, but as a child I could never shake the deep feeling that I once lived as a citizen of Japan.

As a kid growing up in Australia, I would watch the Japanese TV show 'The Samurai' as if I was sort of reliving the past.

Which I guess would be like watching some crappy Australian TV show like 'Neighbours' and living in Japan as a kid and thinking that there was a fair bit of BS in that show, but enough truth to ring a bell in a distant memory somehow.

Are you a particle or Mexican wave?

Looking back at my life now though I see that life isn't as random and as chaotic as it seems to be and that it throws a lot of puzzle pieces your way to make sense of your life as it progresses in this life's journey.

We all like to think of ourselves as individual particles, but the truth is once born into this planetary realm we are neither wave nor particle, but more like both.

This thought occurred to me as I was sitting in a crowd of football fans in my hometown wishing my team could at least win this game to get off the bottom of the the football ladder, which we didn't.

This thought occurred to me also at last year's NRL grand final when I was sitting among fellow Sharkie supporters cheering the team on.

I was definitely more of a wave than a particle for the duration of that game.

But it's not just football games where you get to experience the wave or particle theory in practice, think about being in a church service while celebrating a heartfelt communion, or at a music concert singing along with your favorite band or singer, or being part of a community organization or even just a member of a loving family.
So, ask yourself again when you find yourself in a similar situation, am I a wave or a particle, or both at the same time?

How Many Cartoon Bunnies Do You Need to Balance It All Out?

I was listening to the latest Rune Soup podcast about Gnosticism this morning and an expression Gordon used at around the 17-minute mark caught my attention and got me to thinking what it meant - "how many cartoon bunnies do you need to balance that out?"

So, I did some Googling to shed some light on the saying and found this amusing little "mind in the gutter" news story -

People were forced to drag their minds out of the gutter when they realised that the cuddly animal’s ‘legs’ were actually the edge of the sink (and the thing beside him is a towel to try his hands).

The cartoon bunny expression of Gordon's really caught my attention because when I moved into my new townhouse yesterday there was a picture hook on the wall next the front door and I wondered what picture I could hang there.

I decided my prize from the local paper of a framed cartoon for which I supplied the winning caption to the competition would make a good talking point, so I hung it there.

Then at around the 18-and-a-half-minute mark of the podcast Miguel Conner mentions some whacky theory I haven't heard about before that maybe the country I thought I lived in all my life may not exist at all, therefore neither do I, unless I'm a (very poorly paid) South American actor faking an Australian ascent.

Hmm ... so if this young lady's theory about Australia is right then I now have a new existential question to ponder, "If I think I'm an Australian then do I really exist?"

I don't have any rabbit holes in my new backyard, but I do have a manhole near my garden, which I knew when I bought my new property, and being a lazy gardener my plan was to rip out the ferns and make a zen garden with just white stones and rocks, but one thing I didn't realize when I bought the townhouse until today, before going off to the cinema to catch 'IT', which opened in "Australia" today, is that those ferns are hiding a storm water drain.

And I found this drain in my garden
 before going to see 'IT' today

And I definitely won't be planting any oranges and lemons in that garden with the drain in IT either.
You'll have to see 'IT' to get that last sentence I'm afraid ... and I am afraid now after seeing 'IT' and knowing that there is a storm water drain hidden in my fern garden.

My Friend Irma Goes West Starring Jerry Lewis?

What is it with recently deceased stars and hurricanes lately?

and now Jerry Lewis passes away a couple of weeks ago while Irma heads west.

Let's hope no one is screaming at Irma's "hilarious" surprises as this current storm passes.
