What is Animism?

"Maybe you’ve read that Animism is ‘The belief that spirits inhabit rocks and trees etc.
Or even worse… ‘
the belief in a supernatural power that organizes and animates the material universe.
Does this mean it is a religion
?
After all, thats what Google says… right?
"

Woven Energy 12A look at the INCREDIBLE lives and shamanism of the Evenki people
I just listened to the above podcasts that focused on the subject of animism and found them quite interesting and thought provoking, so I thought I would link the podcasts here for anyone who might be interested in the subject of animism.
Not that there are any forms of animism to be seen in our modern society, right?-)
I hope my AFL club has a better season next year.
Go the Lions!!!!
And the Sharks!!!!
I was going to end this post here, but I picked up a pile of junk mail, which I just took out of my letterbox and saw an artist in a furniture store flyer whose past artwork I'm quite familiar with, Tracey Keller.
I think her work is very shamanic and animistic and I have my favourite print of hers hanging on the wall to the left of my computer desk.
I've had a picture of her goldfish on the right-hand side of this blog on my sidebar since I started writing this blog.
I thought it was kind of ironic after watching that You Tube above about Tracey's leg operation and being bedridden that Tracey would wind up in the bedding section of the Betta flyer.
I hope she is feeling a lot Betta/better now, too;-)
If I get a spare $3290 I might have to get myself a Tracey Keller elephant and stick it in the middle of my living room to see if guests bring it up in conversation;-)
I like those LUXURY BRONZE SCULPTURES that Tracey made.
But where is the bronze goldfish swimming in a glass bowl?-)

I used to have move of Tracey's prints on my walls, but after my divorce and having to downsize my dwelling space I gave away the rest of my prints to my nieces, so now I only have the one print and the children's book of Tracey's (in case grandchildren come along).

  1. Do you think it was the Evenki people the ones that were studied by the anthropologist that Gordon White put in his recent podcast? It definitely would fit.

I'm still not sure what Gordon means by Big Table Animism. Did he ever define it clearly? I don't hang on to everything he does, so I may have missed it.

  2. I don't know if I have heard the podcast you are reffing to Photos, although I have heard Gordon say the words "big table Animism" before, but I have no idea what Gordon means by that.
I don't hang on what anyone says on most blogs, including my own.
Which is why the headers on my posts usually contain a question mark.
It's a bit like restaurants when it comes to blogs, you might not like all of the food on the menu, but you tend to go to and come back to the ones where you like most of the food on the menu and what they have to offer.
Maybe that's what "big table Animism" is too in a way, but you would have to ask the chef about that;-)
