He saw the 1969 moon landing as a global event that united humanity, and he wanted to commemorate the spirit of unity and friendship.
Febbraro sent letters to contacts around the world, encouraging them to celebrate a day dedicated to friendships across borders. His idea resonated in several South American countries, including Brazil.
In Brazil, Friendship Day quickly became a popular celebration, focusing on the value of friendships in everyday life. Although it started as an initiative to connect people globally, it took on a personal touch in Brazil.
Friends exchange messages, gifts, and enjoy social gatherings, appreciating the relationships that bring joy and support to their lives. The day remains a heartfelt occasion where both old and new friendships are honored."

| How to Celebrate Friendship Day in Brazil |
It's Monday morning (AKA MoonDay) Australian time as I write this post up, but in Brazil and Argentina it is still Sunday July 20th according to the World Clock website, where I snapped this partial screenshot below showing the time difference between Australia and Brazil.

It puzzles me that I have such a large constant readership from Brazil and to a lesser degree Argentina, as I don't know anyone personally from South America, other than Gordon White, who is living in Paraguay, which might explain the small hits from Paraguay.

| Friendship Day |
"Friends Day in Argentina has a heartwarming story behind it that dates back to the 1970s. The idea was born from the vision of Enrique Ernesto Febbraro, an Argentinian dentist and professor who was deeply passionate about promoting peace and unity among people.
Febbraro’s inspiration came from the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, which captivated the world. He saw this monumental achievement as a symbol of what humanity could accomplish when united in purpose, and it sparked an idea in his mind.
Febbraro believed that, much like the cooperation that made the moon landing possible, friendships had the power to bring people together across boundaries. He wanted to create a special day that celebrated these important connections, so he began an extraordinary campaign.
Over the years, Febbraro wrote countless letters to people in different countries, sharing his vision of a day dedicated to friendship and inviting them to join in the celebration.
His determination eventually bore fruit. In 1979, Friends Day was officially recognized in Argentina, marking the beginning of a new tradition. The idea resonated with people across the nation, who eagerly embraced the opportunity to celebrate the friendships that enrich their lives.
As the years passed, the tradition grew stronger, and Friends Day became a cherished occasion in Argentina, a day when people come together to honor the bonds that connect them.
Febbraro’s dream of fostering unity through friendship lives on, making this day a special part of Argentina’s cultural fabric."
