Normally I wouldn't be interested in seeing another "Invisible Man" movie ( pun intended ... and I'll bet that you didn't see it coming, either:-), but after listening to Leigh Whannell talk about the movie in the latest 'Aussies in Hollywood' podcast, and then me reading that the movie was filmed in Australia, I've decided tokidnap take my youngest son (relax, he is 26 now) with me to see it this week at the cinema. It's kind of dark synchromystic timing that a film dealing with domestic violence themes should be showing on Australian cinema screens at this time, just after the horrific headlines for the past weeks in the Australian press about such matters.
One particularly horrific domestic violence incident, which took place not too many miles away from the suburb I grew up in Brisbane as a youngster. And then I saw this news story below yesterday about a woman stalking and killing her ex, not far from where Gordon White from the 'Rune Soup' blog lives.
I couldn't help thinking that both of those domestic violence acts above happened on public roads and in that podcast, Leigh talks about seeing the premier of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' in Hollywood.
I thought it was interesting that Leigh mentions 'Nightmare on Elm Street 4'being one of his favourite films when he was growing up. A film starring my old sync-head mate Andras Jones -
I'd like to see Leigh write a movie script for a new horror movie to resurrect Andras' main stream acting career. Maybe a movie involving a haunting song that plays on the radio whenever something bad ... or good ... is going to occur in the life of the protagonist?-)
I hope 'The Invisible Man'is a hit for Leigh(yeah, bad pun intended there:-), but what about making 'The Invisible Woman', too Leigh, to show that there is good and bad in both sexes. A little of that "equality" we heard so much about in Hollywoodthese days, to show that some women are just as psychopathic as men when it comes to DV sometimes.
I'm yet to do any psychedelics, but listening to people explain their experiences of them fascinates me. I listened to the latest 'The DMT Xperience' podcast episode last night and found it quite interesting indeed, as I was in bed and kept drifting off into a natural dream state and would hear these guys having a conversation thinking it was part of my dream, then I would wake up and reset the podcast back to where I consciously remembered being up to before drifting off. I did this a number of times through the night, until I managed to make it through the podcast while consciously awake in my bed. Tibrogargan is almost vertical in some parts
I remember someone above me dislodging a rock as big as my fist and the rock missing my head by inches that day. It would have been game over at that point if it knocked me out and I rolled off the rock-face. That mountain has claimed a few lives over the years and mine could have easily been one of them the day I climbed it. Now I look back and wonder why I used to risk life and limb just to climb to the top and down again.
