Cuttlefish: As Above, So Below???
According to Scott Alexander-King Cuttlefish Dreaming is about legacy.
The cuttle-bone
When cuttlefish die and rot away their cuttle-bone is all that is left of them.
Pet stores sell them to bird owners for a source of calcium and as beak sharpeners.
Scott says many artists, writers and musicians only achieve fame and fortune after they die.
The success coming too late for them to enjoy the financial benefits for themselves, but hopefully they have family that can benefit from the legacy.
But what fascinates me is their ability to change the colour of their skin to whatever is below them ... well almost whatever is below them.
Well, I think the above quote would sum up what the remaining family members would do to each other fighting over the legacy;-)

  1. We get the cuttle fish bones - or whatever they should be called - washed up on our local beaches. But luckily not a budgie smuggler in sight.

  2. Recalling a dive near Nelson Bay almost twenty years ago.

We were watching a cuttlefish swim above the the kelp about six feet in front of us when a cormorant dive bombed down from the air, through the full 35 feet of water to grab it... right in front of our faces.

    Dramatic alchemy right there.
