Peaches and a Sign of Changing Times?

I saw a news story on the BBC website about the peach harvest fail in South Carolina this morning and couldn't help thinking of the song 'Peaches' by the band 'The Presidents of the USA'.
A failed peach harvest devastates the US South
"The music video features the band performing the song in an orchard filled with trees growing peach cans.
During the song's instrumental break, the band is attacked by a group of ninjas attempting to capture them, whom they fight for the remainder of the video and eventually defeat."
"The Presidents recorded a 10-song cassette, Froggystyle, in early 1994 in one day at Laundry Room Studios.
The band sold the cassette at shows in 1994.
Finn also sold the cassette from behind the bar of
Seattle's Comet Tavern, where he bar tended."
That name rings a bell, don't you think?-)
The Presidents of the USA Froggystyle?!
"Released during the grunge and punk music breakthrough-era, the album produced four singles—"Kitty", "Lump", "Peaches" and "Dune Buggy"—that helped the group gain mainstream popularity, and "Lump" can be found on the band's 2000 compilation album with the same title. The Presidents of the United States of America received positive reviews, and has been certified triple Platinum by the RIAA."
Track #2 'Feather Pluckin'' catches my eye with 2017 being
'The Year of the Fire Rooster'.
North Korea: Beijing locals weigh in as China warns Donald Trump not to 'play with fire'
How an ancient Egyptian god spurred the rise of Trump
"Donald Trump’s presidency is well underway, but many observers are still trying to understand how he won the office in the first place.
Plenty of explanations are circulating, from Hillary Clinton’s weaknesses as a candidate to pervasive sexism and class disenfranchisement in the Rust Belt.
But whatever the truth, those who worked tirelessly on behalf of Trump have got what they were after.
A small subset of these campaigners is worth special attention.
Not so much because of their political convictions but because of their unrestrained fervour to fulfil an ancient Egyptian prophecy involving Trump, a cartoon frog, and an online counterculture.
The story starts with the infamous online image board 4chan, which has been a weather-vane of internet subculture since its conception in 2003.
4chan is divided into sub-forums about topics ranging from video games and anime to politics. Users communicate largely through memes – images somehow grounded in pop culture and featuring a recurring character, figure or phrase.
Around 2010, 4chan users began posting and reposting the image of a cartoon frog, Pepe.
By 2015, his wrinkly, wide-eyed face had become a staple meme within the community.
The sub-forum “/pol/” caters to the internet’s extreme fringe: anarchists, communists, far-right extremists and white supremacists. /pol/ is 4chan’s second most popular sub-forum, and is one of the main forces that set the tone for online fringe political discussion.
Pepe the frog and /pol/ first collided with the outside world in June of 2015, when Trump announced his candidacy for president of the united states.
Trump, with his aversion to “political correctness” and penchant for flair and showmanship, was /pol/’s immediate candidate of choice.
And so, Pepe the frog was edited to wear a “Make America Great Again” hat, and began appearing in hundreds of Trump-supporting forum posts.
At that very time, an event of religious significance to /pol/ contributors was approaching.
Each post published on 4chan bears an identifying number, assigned consecutively by order of publication.
Because of the huge number of posts published every day, this number is practically random. 4chan has an old tradition of users trying to have their posts obtain certain special numbers, known as “gets”.
The most precious “gets” are round numbers (such as 1m) or those that repeat all their digits.
By October of 2015, /pol/ was approaching its 77777777th post, seen to be of particular importance because the number 7 is often associated with good luck and fortune.
The post that would “get” that number was sure to gain legendary status within the community.
As it happened, the
77777777th “get” was for the message “Trump will win”.
This sent /pol/ and the broader 4chan community into paroxysms of amazement and glee.
To fulfil this prophecy, the sub-forum started an online campaign in support of Trump.
Users on /pol/ believed that the best way they could help Trump’s chances of victory was by creating and spreading pro-Trump internet memes outside of 4chan.
They called it the “meme war”: if they could expose regular social media users (“normies”) to as many pro-Trump memes as possible, Trump would forever dominate the online news cycle, giving him a better chance of winning the primaries and maybe even the presidency.
It was from this melting pot that the cult of Kek emerged.
Hmm ... drain the swamp?!
""Lump" is a song by alternative rock band
The Presidents of the United States of America.
It was released in 1995 and featured on their self-titled debut album.
The song reached #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1995.
Composer Chris Ballew said that the lyrics combined his own history of having a benign tumor in the head with a vision he had of a woman in a swamp, while employing the word "lump" because Ballew was fond of it.
The musical part was described by Ballew as him "trying to write a Buzzcocks song". Ballew considers it his favorite composition.
Later in the same year, it debuted on the Album Rock Tracks chart, and went on to hit #7.
The music video for "Lump", directed by Roman Coppola, takes place in a "boggy marsh" (as the lyrics state).
The video shows the band singing in a swamp as well as on the stern of a large barge in Elliott Bayinterspersed with a silhouette scene of the band performing."
Lump?!  Tumor in the head?!
North Korea-US nuclear standoff is 'very, very, very serious', John McCain warns
"'The great leaders I've seen don't threaten unless they're ready to act and I'm not sure that President Trump is ready to act,' Republican Senator says."
"Lump" was featured in the 2009 film Fanboys.
"Weird Al" Yankovic released a parody version of "Lump" known as "Gump", a joking tribute to Forrest Gump.
Maybe Weird Al should release a modified version of 'Gump' ... as 'Trump'?-)
Then I see this news story on the ABC website which just came through about an hour ago -
Egypt train crash kills 37, injures more than 120 outside coastal city of Alexandria
"Two passenger trains have collided in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria, killing 37 people and injuring 123, a health ministry spokesman said.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered authorities to establish who was responsible for the crash, which left bodies strewn on the ground around wrecked carriages.
A statement by the Egyptian Railways Authority said a train traveling to Alexandria from Cairo, Egypt's capital, crashed into the back of another train, which was waiting at a small station in the district of Khorshid, just east of Alexandria.
The stationary train had just arrived from Port Said, a Mediterranean city on the northern tip of the Suez Canal, when it was hit, according to the statement.
Donald Trump threatens 'military option' in crisis-hit Venezuela; Pentagon says it has 'no orders'
"US President Donald Trump has threatened a military intervention in Venezuela, a surprise escalation in Washington's response to the country's political crisis.
Mr Trump has been blasting Nicolas Maduro's moves to consolidate power, describing him as a "dictator", while the White House has raised a series of sanctions against the Venezuelan President.
"The people are suffering and they are dying. We have many options for Venezuela including a possible military option if necessary," Mr Trump told reporters today.
He added it was "certainly something that we could pursue".
Looks like things are a changin' fast in 2017 and not just the Earth's climate, either.
Oh, and if you're into Mercury retrogrades then you might want to buckle up in the days ahead.
Probably not a good time to be locked and loaded Mr Trump.
Are the Caduceus and the Rod of Asclepius Just Signs of an Accidental M*A*S*H Up?
When I was reading the Mercury retrograde post over at the Synchrosecrets blog I also saw a post about the number 137 -
#137, again
"The number became so baffling to physicists that the great Richard Feynman, who won the Nobel Prize in 1965 for his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics, said that physicists should put a sign in their offices to remind themselves of how much they don’t know.
The sign would be simple: 137."
I was checking my page-views by counties of the world at the time and saw that there was 137 views from the USA.
And considering that it is the 12th of August now here in Oz with Mercury about to go retrograde and the Synchrosecrets post about the number 137 was posted on August 6th (the anniversary of the dropping of the A-bomb on Japan), I'm not so sure it's a good sign the way things are headed at the moment.
