Violent IKEA Gnome Ad Upsets British Viewers

Gnome Idea?-)

Nine Kinds

of Naked

"An Ikea commercial showing a couple at war with garden gnomes has upset British TV audiences, who have sent in dozens of complaints.
The "Say No To Gnomes" ad shows a couple attempting to clear out old furniture and ornaments from their garden — but facing a revenge attack from a small army of furious-looking gnomes.
The gnomes eventually lose, but not before viewers are treated to slow-motion shots of their squat ceramic bodies smashing against a fence or under the jet of a garden hose.
Britain's Advertising Standards Authority said it received nearly 50 complaints that the two-minute ad was "offensive, unsuitable for children, frightening, violent and encouraged emulation and anti-social behaviour", BBC News reports.
The authority said it was "surprised" by the reaction and had no plans to take any action....
Ikea's UK marketing manager, Peter Wright, said the ad was a "light-hearted" way of showing a family breaking away from "the ultimate embodiment of everything that's tired and dreary about British gardens — the garden gnome"."
Violent gnome ad upsets British viewers
I'm glad that I broke away from that "tired and dreary" place, too.
Unlike Jack;-)
If they ever make a sequel to The Shining IKEA would be the perfect place to film it.
I could see Jack fitting right into management at that place ... and with pretty much the same results too.

  1. Odd synchro here. I think the author of 9 kinds of naked had a synchro that was one of the first we used back in 2009.

    IKEA - BOO!

Oddly enough that IKEA ad brought me back to an avalanche of synchros especially this old podcast -

Take a listen to it,I think you will love it as well.
It's an interview with Tony about his book "Nine Kinds of Naked".
A book title that appeared to me in a dream,so I Googled it and bought it and read it a few years ago.It has been a treasure in sync gold to me over the years and continues to be.

  3. I've seen the ad on tv, its hilarious and probably the best thing Ikea has ever created lol but it does conjure up that sinister idea of the 'little folke' and leprecauns/faireys being like scary little devils hiding in the woods and all that, taking revenge on people OR The Smurfs ;-)

  4. The Shining at IKEA - now, there's a thought - though I've still never been in one of their stores.

".. the ultimate embodiment of everything that's tired and dreary about British gardens — the garden gnome" - huh, bloody cheek!

For the first time in 100 years our major flower exhibition - The Chelsea Flower Show has allowed gnomes this year (as a one off): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2326746/Dont-breaking-gnome-As-Chelsea-Flower-Show-finally-allows-tiny-figures-Elton-John-stars-decorated-theirs.html
