Australien? |
The podcast I listened to was the latest episode uploaded on 11/9 as Americans write the date, or 9/11 as we fake Australians write the date.
That night I was at a screening in Brisbane, Australia of '2001: A Space Odyssey' with a Q&A with the actors -
9/11 Screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey?
Oddly enough, the MC of the Q&A made a joke to the two actors that some people think that Australia doesn't exist and that we "Australians" are all paid actors taking part in a conspiracy.

This podcast is a recording of Carrie Poppy's talk at the Australian Skeptics Convention on October 13th (10/13 as Americans write the date).
The name of his production company, Ten Thirteen Productions, comes from Carter's birthdate, 10/13/1956.
On The X-Files (1993), Mulder's birthday was also 10/13.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?
I think Carrie Poppy mentions Leo in her talk, too;-)
In the opening of Carrie's October 13th talk she mentions Miley Cyrus as her first example of a hypocrite.
Plus, Ross and Carrie share the winners of the owl art contest and announce some upcoming live shows!
Ross and Carrie and Carrie's Australian Talk: Hypocrisy Edition
The last time I had listened to a Ross and Carrie podcast was the one I wrote about in this post -
Ki ... kinda Looks Like Something Other Than an Owl?
So, it was kind of synchy that Ross and Carrie were announcing the winners of the owl art competition in their latest "fake Australia" podcast.
In Australia the 11th of November is known as Remembrance Day (AKA Poppy Day).
Douglas Rain, the actor who voiced HAL in the movie '2001: A Space Odyssey' passed away on Poppy Day (11/11 wherever in the world that you write the date) and in her talk Carrie talks about the ethics of stealing a bicycle (built for two?-).

In the opening of Carrie's October 13th talk she mentions Miley Cyrus as her first example of a hypocrite.
"On the night of November 11, 2018, while filming on location in South Africa, Cyrus broke a longstanding social media blackout meant to lead to the premier of her seventh studio album to reveal the home she shared with Liam Hemsworth [an Australian by the way] burned down in the Woolsey wildfire.
In her posts, she expressed devastation for her community and acknowledged the safety of herself, her fiancรฉ, and their many pets, while providing links for her followers to donate time, money, and resources to groups and charities in the effort to extinguish the 2018 California wildfires and help those whom they affected.
She was one of many resident entertainers in the area, including actor Gerard Butler and musicians Neil Young and Robin Thicke, who lost their homes in the fire."
But the syncs are just getting started here, as far as Ross and Carrie's show and our adventures are concerned.
Ironically on the subject of hypocrites, the night before I listened to Carrie's podcast, I had been down to Byron Bay to see a talk by Germaine Greer.
I bought the ticket months ago and while I haven't read any of her books, I thought it would be interesting to see the iconic figure of the woman's movement live on stage.
I had intended to buy her latest book and get it signed, but when it came to Q&A a young guy in the audience was handed the microphone just before Germaine stated that she would like the first question to be from a female.
The young guy looked confused and asked why and Germaine basically said it was her show and she could do what she liked.
The young guy tried to stand his ground refusing to hand the mic back until Germaine gave a reasonable excuse (which she didn't IMO).
I just thought what a hypocrite she was, because if a man pulled that stunt on a female audience member, I'm sure he would be hounded off stage as a sexist pig.
Needless to say, I didn't buy her book and went home a couple of buck$ richer than I would have, and a bit wiser on the subject of hypocrisy.
Germaine did mention about being a university professor in England and seeing young women sucked in by males who were just trying to sleep with as many women as they could, and destroying the lives of women who thought they were the young man's true love.
Carrie mentions falling for the same trap when she brings up Henry in her talk, the guy who was not just sleeping with her, but nine other women that she found out about later.
Henry also claimed to be a feminist and someone who loathed con artists.
Carrie then interrupts her talk about Henry by saying "owl, owl, owl", to announce the winners of the owl art competition and who will be receiving a copy of 'The Messengers'.
2018 is the Chinese 'Year of the Dog', too |

Byron Bay is the town where Liam Hemsworth's brother Chris and his wife are currently building their mansion, by the way.

I also found it amusing that Carrie was asked if she knew that the area the "Australian" skeptics conference was held in was a Scientologist stronghold and that I had seen a movie called 'Boy Erased' on the day I saw '2001: A Space Odyssey', starring 4 Australians, OK 3 Australians and one New Zealander (not that I'm sure New Zealand really exists, because if you ask most Kiwis you meet where they are living now, it is usually Australia;-) and one of those Australians is an ex-Scientologist, plus the main actress from Stanley Kubrick's last film, 'Eyes Wide Shut'.
