My two boys had bought me a ticket to Trent Dalton's stage play 'Love Stories' months ago, as we all like Trent's novels and had seen the stage play of his first major novel 'Boy Swallows Universe' a few years back during covid and as another ticket for my birthday present that year - |

Unfortunately for me they had booked the tickets for last Friday night when my team The Sharks were playing The Cowboys in a minor knockout final to see who got to play The Panthers in the semi-final the following week. Had my boys not bought the theatre tickets months ago, I would have been down in Sydney watching this game, as I was dying to see The Sharks play at the re-built stadium, as I was down there at the old stadium on my birthday in 2016 at a semi-final to watch The Sharks beat The Cowboys that year, the night of my birthday -My youngest son and I planned on heading back to my place after the show and watching the game in a delayed telecast on KAYO, hoping not to hear someone give away the score before we could watch the game on TV. The new bridge from Southbank Parklands to the new STAR Casino had recently opened, so we decided to take a walk over it to the new casino and check it out.Ironically, Trent's book launch for 'Lola in the Mirror' was held at Southbank Parklands in 2023 -
Lola in the Mirror in the Year of the Rabbit?ð°ðUnfortunately, I spotted big TV screens in the casino, and they had the game on, so we didn't go into the casino and just checked out the outside of the building that night.You could see people right at the top standing out on the see-through ledge and looking down.We just walked around to the front of the building and had a look at the artwork and then walked back across the bridge to watch the drone show that was about to start. As we were walking back along the bridge a party boat came down the river blaring the song 'Macarena' from the deck. |

In the end The Sharks beat The Cowboys 26-18 and now meet The Panthers, and for one of us it will be the last game until we meet in the first round of the 2025 NRL season in March in Las Vegas.
Unfortunately, I spotted big TV screens in the casino, and they had the game on, so we didn't go into the casino and just checked out the outside of the building that night.
You could see people right at the top standing out on the see-through ledge and looking down.
