Moth Verses Butterfly Symbolism

Butterflies are the "in thing" symbolically with many people at the moment.
Just take a look at all the butterfly paraphernalia around everywhere.
Many people see the butterfly as a symbol of transformation and maybe fluidity as well, since butterflies apparently live only on a diet of fluids including pollen, so they could be considered fluid creatures I guess ... go with the flow, and all that kind of thing.
I can see why the butterfly is such a popular image all around the world, but I prefer the moth.
Why?
Because they are mainly creatures ruled by lunar light, which to me represents intuition.
They are insects of transformation, just like the butterfly as well, so they both have that theme in common.
Unfortunately one particular movie has given moths a bad rep ... but hey, what about "The Butterfly Effect"
Not exactly a Disney movie either.
I see moths as more of a spiritual insect than a butterfly,
because they are constantly striving for the light in the darkness.
And even though the man-made light can fool them quite often,
I also see that as a metaphor to be wary of man-made cults trying
to be substitutes for the real light of the universe.
I prefer the moth to the butterfly as a more spiritual representation of transformation, and maybe I like to live with a little more risk than butterfly people do in my search for the light of truth?-)
Moths have that Donnie Darko
theme going, as well;-)
May you find your true light.
