Odeon Means "Singing Place"?😲😢

I had no idea what the word
'Odeon' meant until reading a blog post about the closure of the Odeon Cinema in Western Super Mare, while watching the Disney+ series 'Welcome to Wrexham' and seeing a film premier of 'Free Guy' taking place at the Odeon Cinema in Wrexham and wondering just what the word Odeon meant.

I have my own memories of seeing 'Free Guy' at the cinema, but not at an Odeon Cinema, as our Odeon in Brisbane closed its doors in 1976.

Odeon means a building for singing or singing place, which seems appropriate for the Western Super Mare Odeon to be screening 'The Little Mermaid' as a siren song.
I think that just might be Chris Knowles favourite current movie;-) -
