Was It a Dream Guy De Maupassant?πŸ˜΄πŸ›ŒπŸ‘»

Ironically, as I had just about finished listening to Guy's novel 'Bel Ami' on my iPad a hard copy of the novel crossed my path while sorting through Op Shop donations.
The pages of the novel were yellowed and stained, and the book would have been tossed into the paper recycling bin instead of being sold, so I bought it to give to a street library for readers like me who don't care about reading a book with stained old yellow pages.

"Maupassant also wrote under several pseudonyms, including "Joseph Prunier", "Guy de Valmont", and "Maufrigneuse" (which he used from 1881 to 1885).
In his later years he developed a constant desire for solitude, an obsession for self-preservation, and a fear of death and paranoia of persecution caused by the syphilis he had contracted in his youth.
It has been suggested that his brother, HervΓ©, also suffered from syphilis and that the disease may have been congenital.
On 2 January 1892, Maupassant tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat; he was committed to the private asylum of Esprit Blanche at Passy, in Paris, where he died on 6 July 1893 [42 years old] from syphilis.
Maupassant penned his own epitaph: "I have coveted everything and taken pleasure in nothing." He is buried in Section 26 of the Montparnasse Cemetery, Paris."

I've even watched the 1947 movie starring the late Angela Lansbury (1925-2022) above and based on the book.
Guy De Maupassant was an interesting author who seemed to live a nightmare more than a dream, when it came to his work.
