After having read the 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' and then listened to a series of short stories by Guy De Mauspassant, I saw the movie 'The Boogeyman' at the cinema with my youngest son (now 29 years old) who is a big King fan, and it dawned on me that King is heavily influenced by authors such as Robert Louis Stevenson with the Jekyll and Hyde theme and Guy De Mauspassant's short stories and boogeyman themes.
And of course, those authors were influenced by authors who came before them, such as Poe, Shelly, Bronte, etc.

'The Boogeyman' is based on a short story of King's from his book 'Nightshift', but the basic story has been expanded and changed for the movie version, leaving only a skeletal version of the original short story, as King's version was more of a 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' story than a Guy De Mauspassant type short story of the irrational fear of the dark.
It's quite obvious that the director of this movie Rob Savage is a Kubrick fan like I am and has paid homage to Kubrick with The Shining easter eggs all through this movie.
There are references to room 237 in addresses and cell phone messages throughout the movie, as well as the moon light that the young girl sleeps with in her bed at night.
And on a personal synchromystic note, as soon as I had seen 'The Boogeyman' someone donated a light up plastic moon to the charity shop I work at part time that week, so I bought it.
The moon light I can now sleep with at night:-) |

Fear - Guy de Maupassant |
I just fear that I won't live long enough to hear them all;-)
