I just binged watched the first season of 'Byron Baes' on Netflix after listening to Byron Bay pod-caster Guy Lawrence chat with Tom Campbell about the evolution of mankind, and this show pretty much blew apart Tom's argument with their self-centred egotistical lives:-) 

A 2.6 rating out of 10 is too generous I think

'Byron Baes' can be basically seen as a metaphor for the 'fake tan' can launch by the Gay Gold Coast guy in the show, where the fake thing is nothing like the real thing.

Just What is "The Real Thing" Anyway?

The show is pretty much totally scripted and the people that I have met down in Byron Bay are nothing like these inflated egos in the show trying to tell you that everyone in Byron knows everybody else ... what total BS that is.

After I had finished watching the last 'Byron Baes' episode in that first series (and hopefully the last) I saw the sad news of the passing of a popular Byron Bay DJ.
