Well, timing is everything when it comes to life, it seems?
I was reading Kate Ceberano's new book 'Unsung' yesterday, which was a Christmas present from my youngest son, because we both had tickets to Kate's book launch at the Avid Reader bookstore a few weeks ago, but he got sick on the day of the talk and opted out of going.
I still went through, and he gave me the book early so I could get it signed by Kate on the night.
As I was reading the book yesterday, I read in the chapter titled 'Earth & Sky' about Kate starring in Paul Cox's 1999 movie 'Molokai: The Story of Father Damien' starring David Wenham as Father Damien.
I had never seen the movie, even though it's been on my watch list since I attended a talk of Paul's when he was alive and he talked about the making of the movie, as it is a hard movie to find on streaming services or the internet.
But I found it yesterday on You Tube and sat through a billion ads and watched it.
Here it is below, so hurry before it gets pulled from the net.
David Wenham plays the bad guy in Baz's movie/series 'Australia/Faraway Downs' ... and let's not forget that Nicole Kidman was born in Hawaii, not Australia;-) -
Faraway Downs/Australia?ððŪðĪ
'Molokai: The Story of Father Damien' is probably the best Paul Cox movie I have seen now and is almost the exact opposite of 'The White Lotus' season 1 storyline, which also is set in Hawaii -

On Borrowed Time
I also binged watched the first season of 'The White Lotus' over the last two days, as I hadn't seen anything starring Sydney Sweeney until now, and me and my son are going to watch her latest movie 'Anyone But You' at the cinema this week, because Bryan Brown is in it -
Mysterious Monkeys (The White Lotus) |
The main reason I went to Kate's talk and bought her book was I saw her concert when I was staying at the same casino it was in back in 2016 -
I also thought it was strange that of all the songs Kate was trying to recall at the Avid Reader book talk was a song I wrote about which was on my mind while traveling through Tasmania in 2016 -
The Windmills of My Mind
