The main reasons for the suicides were the farmers were going broke, or the bank had foreclosed on the farm and the farmers were being forced off the land and to look for other work.
In 'The Chaos Protocols' Gordon mentioned one strategy in this uncertain world economic climate was to be prepared to move to make a living, but as was stated in the movie these farmers feel part of the land and farming community that was theirs for generations and would rather die than start anew.
I get that and would probably ponder those thoughts too if I was in their shoes, to tell the truth, but I think this film brings up a way forward in a world that seems to be going backwards in sustainable and economic terms.
This can be said of communities, cities, countries, and yes, even the biggest whole of all, humanity.
When we encompass this concept of oneness and apply it in our daily life, we begin to feel a sense of being a part of the human race rather than fighting it.
We begin to sense that we are truly in this together and that each and every individual piece of behavior impacts in some way on this body of being called Human Being."
I think the movie 'Sustainable' shows that just may be possible on a practical level when it comes to saving the farm, the planet and ourselves.

One of the issues with modern farming, that most people who aren't farmers don't know about, is that in the old times, it was possible to be a farmer without getting into debt. But that is no longer true. Modern farming methods are simply impossible without getting into debt. And that means that, once enough things go wrong - and given enough time, at some point enough things do go wrong - it's inevitable that a farmer will go broke and be forced to abandon their land. Modern farming methods imply concentrating all the land in the hands of a few huge agri-business firms. With all the issues of putting all of one's eggs in the same basket that come with that.
