To me astrology (not that newspaper column crap) does seem to work, but if it does work it seems to work on a Jungian model like synchronicity or the I Ching seems to work, not through astronomical science.
I listened to this 'Turning of the Wheel' podcast this morning and while the sound quality is not good, the conversation about astrology I thought was -

Happy New Year Daz! Apparently your ascendant sign gives a deeper meaning to your souls path. So your libra/virgo cusp is more of a personality/personna image you project. If you find out what sign was rising in the east when you were born you might 'gell' a bit more with that signs attributes....or not...
