"Ron Cobb was actually slated to direct E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) when the name was "Night Skies." 

However, Steven Spielberg got the script rewritten in a more personal format and chose to direct it himself. 

Cobb was paid $400,000 at the time of "E.T"'s release."
