2020 has been a wild ride for the world so far, and I've been sorting through old books, movies and CDs and deciding which ones to keep and which ones to give away.
The movie and book'EAT PRAY LOVE'will be two of the items going to the secondhand bookstore this week, and while I didn't like the main through-line of the book and movie about finding "happiness" and a life "soul mate", there was some gems to think about in both the movie and the book, even if overall I found them both disappointing, especially the movie.
It is interesting though to watch the movie from a 2020perspective and to think about what has happened to the travel industry and the effect the corona-virus has had on places likeItaly, India and Bali(Indonesia).
I've been playing my old Bill HicksCD and DVD(which are headed for the secondhand bookstore) and I couldn't help thinking about his "It's just a ride" rant about life being like a roller-coaster ride at an amusement park, which in hindsight is probably not such a good metaphor -
Theme Parks and the movie industry have been hit hard in 2020also, but movie streaming sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime have done quite well for themselves in these times of social distancing and lockdowns it seems.
The movie and book 'EAT PRAY LOVE' starts off in Bali with Liz Gilbert having her palm read and told her fortune, which inspires Liz to go on her world trip and return to Bali and meet her (then) "soul mate".
In 'The X-Files' episode'Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose'Peter Boyle's character is obsessed with the Buddy Holly plane crash, but not because of Buddy Holly though, he was more concerned about the Big Bopper's fate/luck of getting a seat on the doomed flight from the toss of a coin.
