The Tower?

The Tower (film)

I was just over at Neil Hauge's blog reading his latest post about a movie called
The Host -
'Hosts' in the 'Soul Machine' - Hijacking Humanity
which made me want to go and take a peek for myself, so I keyed up the cinema times for a local cinema to see what sessions were running today, because it's cheap Tuesday today.
and I see a Korean movie advertised called The Tower!?
The Tower?

When a deadly fire breaks out in an apartment tower, rescuers and those trapped share a common goal:
To get their loved ones out. Single father Dae-ho (KIM Sang-kyung) is the facilities manager at an exclusive residential complex, Tower Sky.
Despite having to work late, he promises his young daughter, Ha-na the best Christmas Eve ever. Yoon-hee, who Dae-ho is privately infatuated with, offers to watch Ha-na while Dae-ho is called to an emergency and the girls quickly forge a bond.
Young-kee (SUL Kyung-gu), a veteran fire captain at Yeouido Station, takes the evening off to spend Christmas Eve with his wife for the first time.
It's supposed to be the happiest evening of the year for everyone, but a terrible accident starts a fire in Tower Sky and changes everything.
Amid one of the city’s worst disasters, a story of ordinary people who hang on to hope to the bitter end unfolds.

" Director Kim Ji-hoon (who previously helmed Sector 7 and May 18) was inspired by the 1974 Hollywood film The Towering Inferno, and his personal experience seeing the 63 Building in Seoul for the first time as a middle school student and imagining how it would feel to be trapped inside.
On January 22, 2013, it became the first Korean film in 2013 to reach the five million mark."

" The Victorian Government has given the go-ahead for plans for the tallest building in the southern hemisphere.
The 388-metre high, 108-storey hotel and apartment building is planned for Melbourne's Southbank area.
Melbourne City Council had opposed the project due to fears it would cast a shadow over the Shrine of Remembrance.
But the Planning Minister, Matthew Guy

says most of council's concerns have been addressed and the shrine trustees support the project."

"A new skyscraper complex, Grozny-City, dominates the skyline behind Akhmad Kadyrov Mosque, known as 'Heart of Chechnya,' in Grozny on April 14, 2012.
The tallest tower in the complex caught fire on April 4, 2013."

A few coincidences in this post, I'd say.

  1. Yes, a few coincidences in the post!

As the Victorian government is built on the principles of the Westminster system - they'd better keep a watchful eye on Guy.
