Hypatia of Alexandria and Other Female Figures of Mythistory?πŸŽ₯πŸ“–πŸ“š

I have finally caught up with the latest SHWEP podcast episodes, barring the member's episodes (because I'm not a paying member), and these episodes deal with the history and times of Hypatia of Alexandria.
Which made me pull out my old 'Agora' DVD and give it a re-watch.
Thais by Anatole France
As fate would have it, I had just finished listening to the 1890 novel 'ThaΓ―s' by Anatole France (who passed away on Aleister Crowley's birthday anniversary of October 12th), which is based on the Catholic saint of the same name who may or may not have existed in real life ... and whose feast day is celebrated today (October 8th) ironically ... I swear I did not know that until trying to find a picture of the saint for this post.
"There has emerged a modern theory that suggests she is a legend deriving from "probably only a moral tale invented for edification." The saint shares her name with another ThaΓ―s of wide notoriety in the Hellenistic world, many hundreds of years before. Of Ancient Athens, she had traveled to Persia with the campaign of Alexander. Notwithstanding, St. ThaΓ―s remains on the Calendar of the Catholic Church, with her feast day October 8."

So, who can you believe when it comes to historical figures?

And also having read
Tess of the d'Urbervilles and watched the BBC TV seriesit strikes me as strange how the femme-fatale archetype was quite popular at the end of the 1800s in pop-culture ... and still is with some Dick-heads;-)
