I have a hummingbird print hanging on my dining room wall which is the hummingbird that was photographed by the late Steve Irwin's son Robert, which I wrote about in this post last year when I purchased the print via mail from the Australia Zoo store -

We don't have hummingbirds in Australia, but we do have the 'bird of paradise' plants featured in Robert Irwin's hummingbird print.
I bought the print after reading a newspaper story about how Robert captured the photo of the hummingbird in Los Angeles (the city of angels?) while walking in a park.

I don't know what was on Robert's mind when he snapped the hummingbird on a bird of paradise plant in LA, but to my eyes it was a clear sign from Steve to his son Robert.
Well, that's what I like to think ... and I do.
The 'bird of paradise' apart from being a hit song for Snowy White is the official flower of the city of angels and the hummingbird according to a lot of sources including the book I'm currently reading, 'Bird Medicine' is associated with "the rainbow bridge" and is also associated with joy.
It is said that hummingbird conjures love as no other medicine does.
Without an open and loving heart, you can never taste the pure bliss of life according to the book 'Bird Medicine'.
It also says that hummingbirds quickly die if caged, caught or are imprisoned. 
Evan T. Pritchard also writes about hummingbird that,
"We need to feel free in order to create.
It reminds me of the New Hampshire slogan "Live Free or Die".
That's how hummingbirds live miraculous existences."

I also think there might be a message in that National Hummingbird Day is held on the first Saturday in the first week of September and that Steve Irwin passed away on September 4th, 2006.

There is also a sub-chapter in the Hummingbird chapter in 'Bird Medicine' titled 'Rainbow Warriors' where it states,
"All hummingbirds have coloration that is at least reminiscent of the rainbow, some more than others.
While this has led to associations with joy, sensuality, and the visual arts, there is a profound shamanistic significance to the rainbow that the hummingbird shares as well."

"But a deeper meaning of the rainbow is that it is a bridge connecting earth and sky, the spiritual and material worlds.
Those on the spiritual path are pledged to help creation continue, and so to do this, they need to be home in both worlds and also need a way to get back and forth between these two realms. 
Among Native Americans the tiny rainbow emblazoned across the chest of this little bird indicates that this is a spiritual hero from the highest realms.

Of course, the rainbow also brings us back down to earth again.

To me seeing a hummingbird is like saying a thousand prayers to the rainbow spirit, the bridge to the spirit world."

I tend to resonate with the idea of soul groups where souls tend to get together in life for a bigger purpose when it comes to the lives we are here to live.
I like how Steve's star is apparently close to Johnny Cash's star on the walk, because Johnny and June sure seemed to be like a soul couple in life.

And ironically on the subject of bird medicine, it was the Irwin's close friend Russell Crowe who pulled the strings to get Steve's star on the walk;-)

I also find it a bit of a coincidence that famous Australian author Colin Thiele passed away the same day as Steve Irwin did.

And how shamanic sounding is it that Steve's star is on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and 
Vine Street?-)
