The Byron Siren Call?

A scene from 'The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee'
I watched
'The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee' a few months back on Amazon Prime and I remembered how in that movie Paul's character longed to return home to the Byron Bay lifestyle that he was once used to.
But in a recent Queensland newspaper Paul Hogan has allegedly said that he feels like a kangaroo in a zoo and wants to come back home.
What happened
to the
USA?
And I've noticed a few stories in the Queensland press about celebrities finding Byron Bay their happy place.
Queen Grace Fraser?
And Pete Murray even wrote a song about it, just to rub it in to people like me from his home state of Queensland who have been locked in behind the state border most of the year:-(
You don't have to sing to me about road blocks Pete:-)
Apart from the Acid on the Road I Had a Good Trip
I didn't have my compass/nautical star/north star back then I guess Pete, but I have now:-)
Blinded by the Nautical Star?
Being stuck behind the Queensland border most of the year means getting driven to drink by the looks of our newspaper adverts:-)
But I remember the drinks I used to have from the taps of the Byron Bay Brewery when I was down there in the good ol' days.
And while I can buy a six-pack of Byron Bay Brewery Beer up here in Queensland, it's not really brewed in Byron Bay when I read the bottle:-(
Signs That I Should See 'The Girl in the Spider's Web'?
I bought some Byron Bay Brewery beer and a cheap $7 bottle of sparkling Aussie wine last Melbourne Cup Day to watch the race that stops a nation, that was already stopped because of Covid 19.
I put my bets on and sat down to watch the race, and who should pop up on my TV before the race?
Pete Murray singing his song from Byron Bay.
Doh!
Getting Caught in the Downdraft and Being Stung by the Trickster for Not Following My Heart?
And all I had left after the race were two expensive bookmarks, and
memories of past trips to Byron:-)
On Board the Byron Bay World's First Solar Powered Train?
So, I guess I'm lucky that I have a lot of books to read still laying around my home.
The War on Sleep?
What Are We Going to Do About the Ibis?
Probably got Buckley's chance of getting through that border bottleneck and back at a descent time like in the old pre-Covid days?
The Best Years of Our Lives?
I guess I could try for another day out walking around my hometown again?-)

  1. Hang in there buddy...I'm sure we'll all get to go travelling again soon. At least I bloody hope so!

  2. I can go to Byron Bay now, it's just that you get stopped at the border for a detail check to see if you aren't coming from Sydney or Victoria, places and people still banned from Queensland.
Road trips around Australia are still off the cards until maybe Christmas 2020.
I was going to go down to Byron Bay for talk on Tuesday, but it's sold out now.
Ironically it was to see a guy from my hometown who wrote a book about growing up in a Brisbane suburb I have never been to, and I have lived in Brisbane/Logan just about my whole life.
Isn't it ironic, as Alanis Morissette would sing?-)
