As a pro-secessionist New South Welshman I for one welcome the change. However I was trying to add to your sync and I was thinking mere/mare and Mary and the connotations with the Moon and Semiramis. (Mary-Wether beach).
ReplyDeleteThen I thought seeing as the bell represents the female form and if the bell has stopped ringing - symbolic of using the bell to ward off ‘evil spirits’ - what will now ward off those pesky evil Corona spirits?
Oddly I just finished re-reading ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ and as you it takes place during the Spanish Civil War, but the quote I remembered best was ‘There are many who do not know they are fascists but will find it out when the time comes.’ All taking place now I suppose.
Bells Beach just has a better ring to it than Merewether to me:-)
ReplyDeleteI've never read 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' or seen the movie, but I did watch Nicole Kidman in 'Hemingway & Gellhorn' recently on Binge, where the novel is mentioned.
