A Hike Through the Black Forest and Hitting the Turps?

"In our increasingly chaotic modern lives it seems that we are becoming more disconnected from nature than ever.
In this episode we discuss the concept of “Nature Deficit Disorder”, the possible benevolent intelligence of nature, and ultimately a pan-psychic theory which leads Rupert Sheldrake to question if the Sun is a conscious entity."
I find it amusing that the universe seems to smash me from every direction all at once when it wants to ram home a point.
The calendar hanging on my kitchen wall
I wrote this post on the first day of spring in Australia after listening to the latest 'Mysterious Universe' podcast about how being in nature is good for you -
Spring Has Sprung Down-Under and So Have the Weeds?
I also wrote a post about Halfasheep's visit to a temple in Bali featuring his visit above in that post -
Halfasheep in Bali?
Then I get my latest 'Artlines' magazine from GOMA and on the front cover is a young woman going on a forest walk.
But not only that, in the same magazine is a picture of some Buddhists monks doing a tree blessing ceremony of a Bodhi tree that has been outside of the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane for ten years.
I must have walked past this tree many times never knowing it was a Bohdi tree that has a direct linage to the original tree in the Indian state of Bihar where Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism is said to have achived enlightenment.
After listening to the 'Mysterious Universe' podcast I pick up
Sarah Wilson's book and read a passage that tells me pretty much what the guys from the MU podcast were telling me.

I wrote about Sarah Wilson's book in my last post -
Deep-Fried Happenstance?
And as I was listening to the 'Mysterious Universe' podcast again I notice in the intro when the guys are discussing a story about Oak Island that one guy asks the other a question and he responds by saying "you know my brain is fried":-)
And that podcast was released on August 31st I noticed, which was a Fri(fry?-)day, too.
The guys in the MU podcast also mention substances given off by pine trees called turpines.
"Turpentine (also called spirit of turpentine, oil of turpentine, wood turpentine and colloquially turps) is a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin from live trees, mainly pines."
The guys in the MU podcast say that there aren't many pine trees in Australia, which is BS, because there are a lot of man planted pine forests, especially in south-east Queensland where I live.
And there are heaps of individual pines planted around the place when you take a good look around in Australia.

When I wrote about sitting by the ocean relaxing to music in my visit to Byron Bay in this recent post -

I was sitting at the base of a huge pine tree (pictured below).

Australia
When I was really young I attended my uncle's funeral in Gympie with my parents and my only real memories of Gympie was the
pine forest smell as we drove into the town.
Certain beers that I smell from time to time remind me of those
pine forest smells.

Yes MU guys, there really are
pine forests in Australia:-)
Lack of water and native predators keep trees scrawny
Even Dr. Bernie Beitman in his latest podcast, which I recently wrote about talks about walking in the forest and being in communion with trees -
Using AI to Study Synchronicity?!
I think the log lady hit the turps a fair bit, too;-)
Just do it.
Hike.
Everything really is connected.

  1. I think of eyore the floating donkey and the ren and Stimpy log song. we are heading into fall. I am watching a tomato horn worm as it gets ready to be a sphinx moth. it is welcome to the tomato plant, I am not presently facing starvation. the turps in the woods and garden save me.
