"Fake News" It's Official Now?

I just read in the "real news" that the term "fake news" has been named Collin's dictionary's "word" of the year for 2017, which actually kind of makes sense with all of the WTF(?)s this year has thrown our way.
"Defined as 'false, often sensational, information disseminated under the guise of news reporting', 'fake news' will now be added to the next print edition of Collins Dictionary."
I mean "fake news" is two words the last time I went to school, which I know was a long time ago, but surely "fake news" is still two words?
But when you have Rupert Murdoch owned newspapers that only seem to care about how bad a pun their cadet journalists can make out of a front-page headline, then I guess a term made popular by a Trumped up president can make "word" of the year.
Donald Trump just claimed he invented 'fake news'
Maybe "WTF News" will be the Collin's "word" for 2018?-)
