Altered States Turns 42 the Year Hurt Passes into the Altered States?

I watched my DVD copy of the 1980 movie ‘Altered States’ starring William Hurt after I wrote my post about him and Marlee Matlin being an item for a few years after they met on the set of ‘Children of a Lesser God’ and I couldn’t help thinking how 42 was the answer to life, the universe and everything according to Douglas Adams’ book/movie:-)

Altered States was Hurt’s as well as Drew Barrymore’s first major motion picture, and Drew would star in ‘Donnie Darko’ which was released in 2001, the same year that Douglas Adams passed into the?

Talk about life being one strange rabbit hole?

And apparently Stanley Kubrick was offered the director’s job for Altered States, but turned it down so he could make ‘The Shining’ which also was released in 1980 ... 42 years ago:-)

 And with William Hurt being born in and passing in the Year of the Tiger I found it amusing watching his character in the as an apeman snatching a piece of meat for the tiger’s cage in the Bronx Zoo, too:-)
